Wythenshawe Veterans Over-35s are situated in south the city and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Top Tier.

Their lineup this campaign features 9 ex- top-flight footballers, with a total nearly 1,800 elite matches.

This high-profile squad also boasts over 220 Premier League scores and 325 global appearances.

They feature one forward, who netted thirty-seven scores in over 100 appearances for his former club after joining them for nine million pounds from German league side SC Freiburg in January 2012.

Stephen Ireland started playing for the side in preseason this summer through close friend and current Wythenshawe player Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then asked other former professionals, who all compete in a weekly small-sided game, to participate.

Ex- Senegalese forward Niasse, who netted 12 goals in sixty-five Premier League games for Everton and still goes to their home games, also had his debut versus Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and use an Blue warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A mate Stephen Ireland said 'join and have a game, it's good fun'," commented Niasse.

"After that he informed me we were facing a team from the city and the shock I had when I saw them sporting Everton shirts - I thought this is strange for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you know you can still do it, anywhere you can play, what are you going to do?

"The spectators who come and watch are happy and to give someone's day if they see us competing there and to ask us queries - it's really about the pleasure of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

So great is the strength in depth at Wythenshawe, he made his debut at defender.

"It's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

Dreamlike' Experience

In addition to Cisse's six goals on debut, Ireland has scored 8 in three appearances for the side, while Boyd hit five on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

"Our side competed well for a solid twenty minutes but then we had a man dismissed and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased chatting about it - I was phoning my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the return match."
